The Luke Mulholland Band, “Further” CD Review
It’s very rare that the first impression of an album consists of the following running script: “Wait a second… where the hell did all this soul come from?” “Man, this is what David Cook wishes he sounded like.” “Are you sure that I’m listening to the right person?” At the age of 19, Luke Mulholland is of exceptional ear-bending talent that isn’t to be determined by staring upon one creamy-complexioned, fresh-faced exterior. “Further”, his fourth CD release, pretty much serves as encouragement for listeners to refrain from judging an album simply by its jacket. Leaving flash and competition with the next best thing at the door, the Luke Mulholland Band (also known as Mulholland Drive) comes to the studio mic with a core of plain and simple talent that oddly enough couldn’t be farther away from the description if it tried.
With a musical history as early as the age of 13, garnering the attention of such greats as Bon Jovi’s Richie Sambora and the late Jeff Healey, Luke Mulholland’s world-wise vocals and arranging skills are such that they are bound to result in one wondering what blues veteran died and possessed his young, willing body. “Further”’s highlights include such tracks as “The Last Verse”: a going-off on an instrumental tangent that for all intents and purposes mourns the loss of classic rockin the way of losing a close friend and companion (rather fitting considering that Big Bad Mainstream might as well be dancing on the poor girl’s grave); “Cold Night”: seamlessly switching tempos from blues-y toe-tapper to a two-quarter time interlude; and “Go”: far from being the red-headed stepchild as the album’s sole lyric-less track, allowing enough platform for Mulholland’s guitar to wail in harmony as much as its electric owner, if not more. Consisting of eight case-sensitive episodic tracks, “Further” is molded from all-too-familiar core qualities (friendship, love, and/or the lack thereof), and is coupled with enough metaphors and similes makes it effortless for listeners to relate to.
Simply put, if you can envision the audible possibility of a more soul-infused Huey Lewis circa 1985, whose overproduction and domineering horn section is substituted with equal parts Ray Charles and Michael McDonald of the Doobie Brothers, then you’ve got the Luke Mulholland Band - and hopefully, you’ve got their latest work in tow.

Snow Rehearsals Continue...
Carlos Cavazo, Stephen Quadros and Tony Cavazo continue rehearsals and plans for the upcoming SNOW reunion.
In the meantime you can listen to some cuts of vintage SNOW on the music player on thier MySpace page Pure Uncut Rock
and I thought you might enjoy a vintage photo of Stephen Quadros and Nikki Sixx taken at a Starwood show in late 1980-81.

Carlos Cavazo, Tony Cavazo and Stephen Quadros Planning Reunion
After years of playing in other musical projects and groups, Carlos Cavazo, Tony Cavazo and Stephen Quadros are planning on taking up where they left off musically when they were last together in Snow over 20 years ago.
"We're not sure if we will go under the name Snow or use a new name, but we are all excited about playing together again. The magic has never left..." states Snow drummer Stephen Quadros.
A DVD release of a rare, high quality concert of the band (Snow) in it's heyday is planned along with at least one new CD with tons of new material.
Some Band History:
Based out of Arcadia, CA, "SNOW" was a heavy metal/hard rock foursome who stirred things up on the Los Angeles music scene from 1978-1981.
Comprised of Carlos Cavazo on guitar, Tony Cavazo on bass, Doug Ellison on lead vocals and Stephen Quadros on drums, Snow performed regularly at The Whiskey, The Starwood and The Troubadour, along with headline shows at The Santa Monica Civic and The Pasadena Civic.
The group released a self-titled 5-song EP in 1980 that included popular Snow songs "Crack The Whip" and "No Way To Treat A Lady". Snow's music received radio airplay on KROQ and KLOS. The original Snow EP has become somewhat of a collectors item.
-Carlos Cavazo enjoyed platinum record selling success with "Quiet Riot" in the mid 1980s and now performs with "The Hollywood All Stars" and "Three Legged Dog."
-Tony Cavazo co-wrote the top 10 single "Bang Your Head" ("Quiet Riot"), recorded and toured with "Hurricane" and currently plays in "The Sacred Cowboys" and "MLC."
-Stephen Quadros has become internationally known as a television commentator in the mixed martial arts world for his work with Pride Fighting Championships, Cage Rage and the International Fight League, among others. Quadros currently performs and records with "Whipped Cream" as well as being a band member, along with Tony Cavazo, in "The Sacred Cowboys" and" MLC."
